The pressure continues to mount for Louis van Gaal and Manchester United as his team were beaten 2-1 last night by Danish side FC Midtjylland in their Europa League round of 32 first leg.

The Dutch manager had previously pinned his team’s hopes of Champions League qualification for next season on winning the second tier tournament, following continued poor form in the league, but if it weren’t for the performance of stand-in goalkeeper Sergio Romero this tie would have been dead in Denmark.

Meanwhile a much-changed Tottenham side earned an away 1-1 draw against Fiorentina thanks to an early Nacer Chadli penalty. While Liverpool were held to an away 0-0 draw against German side FC Augsburg, another frustrating evening for Jurgen Klopp following six goals last Sunday.
