Ladies Alliance in actionPoor weather conditions earlier in the winter season caused many of the Leinster Ladies Alliance fixtures to be postponed. However, they returned to their schedule last week and despite been successful on a number of occasions over the Baltray links course they came up against a strong Co Louth side when losing 4.5 to 0.5 last week.
However, they bounced back this weekend, under the captaincy of Monica Treacy, to beat Milltown 3.5 to 1.5 to win the Christy Greene Memorial Trophy at the sixth time of asking.
The next outing of the Ladies Alliance is the March 10th at the Glen of the Down course which also happens to be the host club for the Leinster Championship later in the year. Time sheet at 01-2896256.

Wallace in the chair
Anne Wallace took over the office of chairwoman at the annual general meeting of the Ladies' Golf Union in Glasgow recently. She will serve a period of 12 months. Wallace will be the fourth chairman from Ireland, and brings to the position over 20 years of administration in golf.
This began at national level in 1983 when she was elected to Ireland's Northern District, where she served as chairwoman in 1985-86. She served three separate three-year spells on the Council of the Irish Ladies' Golf Union and was elected to the LGU executive council in 2000.
She is a qualified referee and has twice subjected herself to the Royal & Ancient's gruelling examination in order to keep up-to-date with current rules and decisions.
Unfortunately, she admits, her golf is not quite so finely tuned although she still enjoys playing, when time permits, at Royal Portrush and City of Derry. Junior golf is a topic which Wallace keeps high on her list of forthcoming priorities.
"The state of junior golf gives me some concern and I earnestly hope that the many initiatives now under way can reverse the decline in many of our clubs."
Fundraiser at The Island
The Island Golf Club is set to be the host club for the annual St Michael's House outing, which this year will take place on Tuesday, April 17th. The outing always forms a major part of St Michael's House fundraising each year and proceeds from this year's event will go towards the purchase of a specially adapted mini-bus, which will cost about €40,000. Entry fee for the outing in April is €635 per team, which includes golf and dinner for four, sponsored hole and corporate name on sponsors board. Anybody interested should make contact with Annette Redmond on 01 - 2987033.
