What a strange week for goalkeepers. First of all, there was Portsmouth's Aaron Flahavan, who suffered a recurrence of his dramatic blackouts during the League Cup clash with Blackburn on Tuesday. The 22-year-old could only watch dazed and confused as Blackburn jumped to a three-goal win.
Elsewhere, two international goalkeepers both scored for their respective club sides. Jose Luis Chilavert of Paraguay netted the 41st goal of his career for Velez Sarsfield against Argentinos Juniors and then Mexican star Jorge Campos struck for Unam in their 4-1 victory over Monterrey in the Mexican league.
In Brazil, the match between Atletico Mineiro and Vitoria ended in chaos when Vitoria goalkeeper Fabio Costa refused to hand over the ball after conceding a penalty. This started a pitch brawl which forced the police to separate feuding players and officials. The fight re-started as soon as the final whistle went.
