Basketball: The final day of the All Ireland Schools' Cup 2007 took place yesterday with four very exciting finals taking place at the home of the sport, the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.

Summerhill Sligo and St Joseph's, Rochfortbridge, were the first teams to take to the hardwood in order to determine the boys under-16 B cup champions.

It was a tense affair with Cian Finn putting in a barnstorming display for St Joseph's, picking up the most valuable player award and collecting a points haul of 13.

Sligo had led the tie for the vast majority of the game but it was a fine three-point score from Finn that separated the sides at the death, St Joseph's running out 33-30 victors.

However, the Westmeath school were not to enjoy similar luck in the under-16 B girls final as they came unstuck against Presentation, Tralee.

The Kerry side dashed the double dreams of St Joseph's thanks to a fabulous display from Sinéad MacKessy and captain Emma Sherwood in a tremendous 46-29 win.

The Saints would have been lost without Maud-Annie Foley, who scored 23 for their 29 points total in the game.

There proved to be little luck on the side of Calasanctius, Oranmore, as their under-19 B boys travelled to the capital to avenge the trio of final defeats suffered by the school on Wednesday against St Muiredach's of Ballina.

Calasanctius were dealt yet another hammer blow as the Mayo side trotted to a 56-33 success thanks in no small part to a superb performance from Rowan O'Malley who netted 25 points for his victorious side.

In the final game of the day Dublin side Loreto, Foxrock overcame Mercy College Sligo amid a huge travelling support in the girls under-19 B final.

Sarah Mulligan and Bláithnid Hughes were on song for Loreto throughout the tussle, and their lethal accuracy around the basket ensured their side a 61-46 triumph.
