On December 9th, 1933, Orville Moody was born in Chicasha, Oklahoma and on the same date 16 years later, Tom Kite first saw the light in Austin, Texas. Moody is the more interesting of the two, if only for the fact that he was 34, with 14 years' service as a staff sergeant in the US army, when he decided to try the professional tour.
Two years later, he became the least-known winner of the US Open when capturing the title at the Champions' Club in Houston. He later won 11 tournaments in senior ranks, having become the first player to make a successful transition to the broomhandle putter.
Teaser: A, unable to find his ball after a two-minute search, suggests to B, his opponent, that they move on to the next hole. A's ball is then found. A withdraws his suggestion to move on to the next hole and play is resumed. Before A plays his ball, B plays a stroke with a wrong ball. What is the ruling?
Answer: A's suggestion amounted to a concession of the hole and B won the hole. Concession of a hole may not be withdrawn (Rule 2-4). B's actions after A's concession could not deprive him of a hole already won.
