On August 4th, 1955, Babe Zaharias suffered a recurrence of cancer and had to undergo radiation therapy. "It's a rub of the green," she said philosophically. "This is my greatest battle." Incidentally, Barry Reddan has sent me a charming photograph of his mother, Clarrie, playing with Zaharias in the British Women's Championship at Gullane Number One in 1947, when the great Babe captured the title.
Teaser: A player's ball is completely embedded in the vertical lip of a bunker. The lip is not grass-covered, so it is part of the bunker. Is the ball considered to be lying through the green? If so, the player would be entitled to drop the ball behind the bunker if he declares it unplayable.
Answer: No. An embedded ball is considered to be lying in the part of the course where it entered the ground.
