EQUESTRIAN SPORT: The Blarney Castle three-day event, which gets under way with two days of dressage tomorrow, has been given the all-clear following a course inspection.

The Co Cork fixture had been in doubt due to waterlogging, particularly on the steeplechase course, but technical delegate Andy Griffiths yesterday declared the ground conditions safe, although there may be some changes made before Saturday's cross-country.

The steeplechase has already been shortened to three minutes, but although the two-star and junior classes will be run as CCI competitions, with the full roads and tracks, chase and cross-country, it is probable that the one-star will be run as a CIC, in other words an international one-day event, without the endurance factors of a three-day.

"It is mostly likely that we'll run the one-star as a CIC, but we won't cut down the distance on the cross-country," said Griffiths.
