While the drinks were flowing in the pavilion after the senior match, the large attendance was treated to a spate of goals in the under-16 final as Three Rock Rovers recovered from a 2-0 deficit to carry off the Benny Atkinson trophy and deny Pembroke a St Patrick's Day double.
Neither side was at full strength because of players being rested for youth international duties in Cardiff at the weekend. The standard of attacking play, though, must have been heartening for both club's mentors, particularly for Rovers.
Patrick Good and Craig Wilson scored well-taken goals for Pembroke in the opening stages but the Three Rock youngster found their rhythm for Graeme McCoy and the influential John Blakeney to reply from short corners. Then, from another set piece, Peter Blakeney from Wesley's minor team put Rovers ahead by the interval in squeezing the ball home at the far post.
When Maurice Elliott swept through to make it 4-2 early in the second half, Rovers had victory in sight and although Simon Blake-Knox managed to get one back for Pembroke, the issue was sealed by Phelie Maguire from another impressive Three Rock move.
