UCD ... 3 Drogheda United ... 0Seán Finn scored a hat-trick inside 10 minutes to give UCD's season a huge lift over free-falling Drogheda who have now lost seven of their last eight games.
Finn's trio gave College only their second win of the season and they can come off the bottom of the table for the first time in three months if they take at least a point from Tuesday's match away to Derry City.
The conditions contributed to the first goal on 30 minutes. Drogheda goalkeeper Gary Rogers fumbled a low drive from Alan Mahon. Rogers managed to parry a follow-up from Alan McNally, but the ball broke again for Finn who side-footed home. A needlessly conceded free-kick by David Smith led to the second goal eight minutes later. Finn's left-footed free-kick took a deflection off the wall to wrong-foot Rogers.
The hat-trick was completed two minutes later when Sullivan's cross was met by the run of Finn to the near post for the perfect hat-trick - right-foot, left-foot and header.
