Tipperary 2-22 Cork 0-25:HOLDERS,TIPPERARY dug deep in extra-time to oust Cork in a thrilling Munster U-21 hurling championship tie at Semple Stadium, Thurles, last evening.

In a tame first half the sides traded points with Pa Bourke (Tipp) and Cork’s Pat Horgan, deadly accurate. Cork were a point ahead after 29 minutes when Burke and Seamus Callanan combined to set up Shane Bourke for a smashing goal which gave Tipp an interval lead of 1-8 to 0-9.

When Pa Bourke blazed a penalty to the Cork net eight minutes into the second half, it looked like Tipp might take over but Cork never gave up and four points between the 48th and 52nd minutes had them ahead.

Now it was Tipp’s turn to chase the game. They managed to get ahead again but two minutes from time Lorcan McLoughlin equalised for Cork, 2-15 to 0-21.

Tipp edged the first half of extra-time adding three points to Cork’s two, but Tipp goalkeeper Bill McCormack denied Pat Horgan a Cork goal in the ninth minute. In an exciting second period, Tipp added points by Pa Bourke and Callanan to Cork’s sole effort from Pat Horgan, to clinch victory.

Full forward Patrick Maher, Padraic Maher, Thomas Stapleton, Seamus Callanan, Noel McGrath and Pa Bourke were key players for Tipp. Pat Horgan, Lorcan McLoughlin, Leigh Desmond, Aidan Walsh, and Paudie O Sullivan impressed for Cork.
