WOMEN'S FOOTBALL:LAST SEASON'S intermediate champions Tipperary maintained their 100 per cent record in the NFL with a hard-fought victory against Westmeath yesterday.

Gillian O’Brien struck two goals for the Premier County as they ran out 2-7 to 1-6 victors in Clogheen to make it four wins from as many outings in Division Two A.

Longford picked up two points in Division Two B, courtesy of a 1-10 to 1-7 success over Down at Emmet Park in Killoe. This was a notable success for the Midlanders who were whitewashed by the same opposition, 1-17 to no score, in last year’s competition.

Meanwhile, Pat Quill has officially succeeded Geraldine Giles as president of the Women’s Gaelic Football Association.
