Waterford IT ... 0-16 Limerick IT ... 1-12:A point in the dying seconds by Ray Moloughney saw Waterford IT through to the quarter-finals and left defending champions Limerick IT needing victory over neigbours UL next week.
James McInerney raced in for a goal in the 24th minute to put Limerick IT 1-5 to 0-4 in front.
The Waterford side hit back with three points, but, on the stroke of half-time, LIT were awarded a penalty. Joe Canning's powerful drive was brilliantly saved by Ger Griffey - who was called back from attack - to leave the half-time score 1-5 to 0-7.
The sides were level four times during the second period, the last when Canning levelled from a free in the 59th minute.
However, LIT conceded a free in midfield from the puck-out and Moloughney sent it straight between the posts.
