Tommy Dunne earns his first Texaco award for leading Tipperary to the league and championship double this year. Throughout 2001, Dunne has been the central figure in the Tipperary resurgence and his display in the All-Ireland final victory over Galway rounded off a superb year.

The 26-year-old Toomevara clubman contributed five points in the September decider, three of them from 65s, but his all round play, distribution and leadership earned him the Man of the Match award.

Earlier in the year, Dunne led Tipperary to National League success over Clare and he finished 2001 by being named Player of the Year and winning an All Star award.
