The all-conquering 1974 Lions are to be reunited in May during a week's tour to raise funds for the Wooden Spoon Society.
Under the captaincy of Ulster's legendary Willie John McBride, the Lions went through South Africa unbeaten, winning 21 of their 22 games and drawing the fourth Test 13-13.
The 25th anniversary tour has been named "The Recall of 99". The 99 refers to the infamous call used by McBride as a means of collective protection to combat the on-field violence experienced in South Africa.
Scotland cap Gordon Brown, who played in three of the four Tests, recalled the moment when the 99 code was first deployed. He said: "The call was first used in the match against Eastern Province. Basically we were prepared to stand up toe-to-toe to any violence against us. We had respect after the Eastern Province match and only had to resort to the 99 call once again on the tour."
"The Recall of 99" will start in Edinburgh on May 17th with a charity dinner at Murrayfield.
