CONNACHT LEAGUE (SF):NUIG claimed a big scalp with a 2-10 to 1-8 victory over Mayo at Dangan yesterday. NUIG enjoyed a perfect start thanks to corner forward Cathal McHugh's goal after 15 seconds.
Mayo responded with points from Austin O'Malley, Barry Kelly and Peadar Gardiner but Conor Devanney's goal helped extend college's lead to 2-4 to 0-3 before Mayo's Mikey Sweeney's goal reduced the deficit by the interval.
Leitrim manager Mickey Moran said the experimental rules must be given time despite seeing his side lose to GMIT 1-9 to 0-11 and finish with just 13 players, having had six players yellow-carded by referee Gerry Kinneavy. Leitrim led 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval at Tuam Stadium.
GMIT took full advantage as Roscommon star Donie Shine levelled the game from the penalty spot before snatching victory for his side with the last kick of the game.
Roscommon were much too strong for Sligo IT as they won 3-13 to 0-5 at Abbey Park, Boyle. Helped by Sean McDermott's goal, Roscommon led 1-7 to 0-4 at half-time. The loss of four players to yellow cards significantly weakened the students' challenge. Karol Mannion added a goal from a penalty and Gary Cox (who scored 1-7), added another in injury time to conclude the scoring.
O'BYRNE CUP (SF):Cathal Cregg's goal helped DCU spring an upset by defeating Laois 1-14 to 1-13 in Portlaoise. Mayo danger man Conor Mortimer scored seven points for DCU while Donie Brennan registered 1-2 for Laois.
Two goals by debutant Paraic Smith helped Louth crush UCD 2-14 to 1-2 in a one-sided encounter in Drogheda yesterday. Mark Ronaldson scored UCD's goal.
Dublin's Mark Vaughan, scored eight points as DIT defeated Kilkenny 0-18 to 2-6 in Freshford despite early second-half goals from Mark Nolan and Robert Shore for the home side.
New Longford manager Glen Ryan enjoyed a winning start to his reign as his experimental line-out defeated Athlone IT 2-12 to 1-7 at Ballymahon. Full forward Pádraig Shanley and David Morgan scored Longford's goals while substitute Michael Lundy replied for Athlone.
McKENNA CUP (SF):Holders Down produced a strong second-half comeback to earn a 3-16 to 0-10 victory over St Mary's at Páirc Esler after the students led 0-8 to 0-7 at the interval. Second-half goals from Cathal Magee (two) and John Fegan helped Ross Carr's men book a date with Tyrone.
Three goals from Tyrone's Shane O'Neill helped Queen's shock Cavan 3-13 to 0-12 at Breffni Park on Saturday.
MUNSTER CUP (SH):Goals from Mark Flaherty and John Conlon helped Clare overcome Tralee IT 2-18 to 2-13 at Meelick.
