TRAINGLOT is as near a certainty for today's Pounds 50,000-added Tote Chester Cup as it is possible to get in a valuable, handicap. The race weights, recent form and course conditions all point to the nine-year-old as the likely winner.
Trainglot is certainly a blot on the handicap with just 8st 4lb to carry. He won the Cesarewitch by six lengths and finished fourth in the Group One Ascot Gold Cup in his younger days yet receives 29lb from top weight Daraydan who is far removed from pattern class.
The gelding returned from a spell on the sidelines to show his best form over hurdles in the winter, completing a hat-trick with victory in the highly-competitive Coral Cup at Cheltenham.
His boundless stamina will be brought fully into play by this extended two-and-a-quarter-mile trip, with front-runners Fujiyama Crest and Kadastrof ensuring a strong gallop.
And the unique nature of this very tight track will be no problem to Trainglot who ran a fine race when second on the course as a three-year- old.
Betting in the mile-and-a-half Cheshire Regiment Handicap is likely to be dominated by Benatom, Misky Bay and Backdrop, representing Henry Cecil, John Gosden and Peter Chapple-Hyam respectively.
And Overbury's half-sister Overruled will be popular with Michael Kinane booked for the ride. But each of the quartet has been set plenty to do on his handicap debut and Three Hills could prove the value bet to beat the lot of them.
