Holders Tralee CBS were made to fight all the way despite the scoreline by old adversaries St Brendan's, Killarney at Austin Stack Park, Tralee in the semi-final of Corn Ui Mhuiri. With the inspirational Brian Dennehy at the back, centre-forward Mark O'Connor, and lethal full-forward Declan Quill in top scoring form St Brendan's were forced to succumb.
Tralee made a whirlwind start with two goals from Quill inside the first three minutes. However, St Brendan's fought back and thanks to three points from Frank O'Rahilly, and two from D J Fleming and another from Donal O'Sullivan, they trailed by the minimum 2-1 to 0-6 at half-time.
In the second half, after Quill put Tralee in front with two points in the 36th and 38th minutes, he then turned provider for T J Hogan who blasted the ball to the Killarney net in the 41st minute.
Tralee's goalkeeper, David Hennebry, made three superb saves to deny St Brendan's and they finished the stronger with O'Connor scoring two late points as the holders cruised into the final.
