Tralee CBS ... 0-9 St Brendan's ... 1-4: Tralee CBS advanced to the semi-final of this season's Corn Uí Mhuire (Munster Colleges senior football championship) after a bloodless victory over a very disappointing St Brendan's College, Killarney outfit in an all-Kerry quarter-final, played in near ideal conditions at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney.
Tralee CBS dominated around the middle of the field where Shane Guthrie and Shane McMahon held sway, despite the heroics of the Luke Quinn.
Tralee, with their defence on top, were guilty of some basic handling errors up front which cost them vital scores. However, they led 0-3 to 0-0 at the end of the first quarter with wing forward Joey O'Connor scoring the lot.
But St Brendan's came storming into the game before half-time and struck a vital goal in the 25th minute which resurrected their challenge.
The ball was fed to in-rushing midfielder Luke Quinn, whorifled an unstoppable shot to the roof of the Tralee net.
This levelled the tie at 1-2 to 0-5, but Shane O'Sullivan then pounced to give Tralee a slender one-point advantage at the break.
St Brendan's needed a good start to the second half, but two early wides did not help their cause as they applied strong pressure.
Tralee - thanks to some inspired play from David Culloty, Gordon Kerins and Brian Moran - kept a firm grip on proceedings for the rest of the half to secure their place in the semi-final.
