Transfer fees to be abolished

THE National League are to abolish all transfer fees

THE National League are to abolish all transfer fees. League representatives are meeting the clubs on March 29th to inform them of this course of action, thereby removing the controversial new tribunal system which the Players' Association were threatening to strike over.

The FAI were due to meet the PFAI last night but, for obvious reasons, were unable to. The news was welcomed by a PFAI spokesperson yesterday who admitted that this will render redundant the need for any strike action in protest over the new "multiplier" transfer system.

However, the news will embarrass the National League chiefs given that notification of their decision, and the March 29th meeting itself, has not been forwarded to the clubs.

This follows the precedent set by the Dutch League yesterday and the German league today, who are also taking the step of abolishing transfer fees in the wake of the Jean Marc Bosman case.

In Britain, however, the transfer system continues and yesterday Northern Ireland international Neil Len non completed a £750,000 move from Crewe to first division Leicester.

. Jan Molby yesterday became the fifth man to take charge of second division crisis club Swansea this season. The 32 year old Danish international has been named player manager at the Vetch Field.
