DIT 1-16 St. Pat's Mater Dei 1-12:David Treacy scored eight points as DIT secured a quarter-final berth thanks to a four-point win over St Pat's-Mater Dei at Alfie Byrne Road yesterday.
DIT manager Joe Fortune will certainly be delighted with the free reign handed to him by Dublin manager Anthony Daly over his players in recent weeks, with Treacy and Liam Rushe putting in strong displays. Bonus territory also for Daly, with goalkeeper Finn McGarry in super form yesterday putting in a string of saves and leading by example as Dublin advanced to the last eight.
The sides were tied at 1-5 apiece at the interval, with Michael Maloney registering DIT’s goal, while Niall Arthur breached the DIT goalmouth from the penalty spot, but only after a McGarry block.
A Stephen O’Connor 37th minute point gave DIT a lead they wouldn’t relinquish, with Treacy, O’Connor and Galway’s Niall Quinn on fire for the eventual winners.
Clare man Arthur tried hard to bring St Pat’s into this contest with a trio of points late on, but DIT held out for victory.
