European Tour: A horrible treble bogey seven at Pehna Longa Golf Club's 14th hole meant Colm Moriarty, Ireland's sole representative at the European Challenge Tour's Estoril Challenge, was forced to catch an early flight home last night.

Moriarty, who opened his first event of 2006 with a level par 72 on Thursday, came undone in the sand at the 14th and racked up a seven that ruined his card and left him with a second round of five over par 77.

That gave Moriarty a five over aggregate and meant he missed the cut by a single stroke.

"I actually hit the ball quite well today but I am very rusty around the greens and with my short game.

"That's what did me in today. I put the ball in the bunker at the 14th and left the ball in the sand twice before I got it out."

Christian Nilsson of Sweden leads by one from his countryman Oskar Bergman and Welshman Kyron Sullivan going into the last two rounds.

New Zealand PGA: Australians Brett Rumford and Jarrod Lyle were tied for the halfway lead at seven-under-par in the New Zealand PGA at Clearwater near Christchurch yesterday.

Rumford added a second round of 68 after completing the final two holes of his opening round in 69 and is the only player in the field not to drop a shot after 36 holes.

Lyle shot a 66 yesterday despite a bogey five at the last hole. He also bogeyed the eighth hole but collected eight birdies, including four out of five from the 11th.

American Matt Hendrix was third, one shot behind the leaders, after a tidy round of 67. He was five-under for the day after seven holes but failed to improve further as he reeled off 11 straight pars.

Women's tour: Michelle Wie, shot a five-under-par 67 that left her three shots off the lead after the first round of the Fields Open, her second LPGA Tour event as a pro, in Hawaii.

Wie is chasing Lorena Ochoa of Mexico, who fired a 64 and has a one-shot lead over Wendy Ward and Korea's Seon Hwa Lee. England's Karen Stupples was fourth after shooting a 66.
