Soccer News: France striker David Trezeguet will miss September's World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin after he was banned for two matches by Fifa for headbutting Tal Ben Haim during last month's 1-1 draw against Israel in a World Cup qualifier.

"That is the minimum for a player hitting another player," said a spokesman for the French Football Federation.

Trezeguet will miss France's Group Four qualifiers against the Faroe Islands on September 3rd and in Dublin on September 7th.

The Juventus striker will be back for France's last two qualifiers in Switzerland on October 8th and against Cyprus on October 12th.

Meanwhile, Glenn Hoddle hopes to have extended his contract as Wolverhampton Wanderers' manager by the time the club play their final game of the season, at home to Sheffield United on Sunday.

Hoddle, who signed a six-month contract when he succeeded Dave Jones in December, has had three rounds of talks with the Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey.

The 47-year-old has also met the club's president and benefactor Jack Hayward, and his son Rick, the chairman.

The former England coach, who was been working with the backroom team Jones left behind, wants to bring in his own staff. He also needs confirmation of the club's plans and the finances available, especially over the next 12 months.

"There are a few issues that we have already cleared away," Hoddle said. "But I need to know answers to key questions."
