Scott Barron's injury problems are Tennis Ireland's big concern ahead of next month's crucial Davis Cup second-round tie away to Denmark. The Dubliner is Ireland's only full-time player and, as such, has been central to team manager Peter Wright's plans. But various injuries have kept Barron on the sidelines for most of his four years as a professional.

A foot injury forced him home from the Indian circuit with promising results under his belt in January and he has not played a competitive match since then because of shoulder trouble. A return to action for the second week of the recent ITF Futures event at Riverview was planned, but medical advice ruled him out.

"Only a month off the event, it's not looking good for Scott," says Tennis Ireland's chief executive Des Allen. "We may have to name two players from trials if Scott doesn't make it."

Robert Collins, who played in the first round against Slovenia, David Mullins, Sean Cooper and George McGill would be involved in the proposed trials. Owen Casey and John Doran are definite starters.
