Two goals in each half helped Trinity to a 4-2 victory over UCD at Belfield yesterday and maintained their recent winning record in the annual women's colours matches between the colleges.

Trinity dominated much of the match, taking a deserved lead in the 10th minute through Anya Bowers, but wasted a number of scoring opportunities that could have sealed their victory by halftime.

UCD, without their captain and goalkeeper Sarah Hooper, who broke her ankle before Christmas, were indebted to her replacement Nikki who produced two superb first half saves from Bowers and Louise O'Hagan, whose reverse stick shot she brilliantly deflected wide.

Trinity lost some of their composure at the back when their captain Sheenagh Walsh went off midway through the first half with a hand injury: minutes later they conceded a penalty stroke, when Wendy Hobson was "stick chopped" in the circle, and Miriam Joyce equalised.

Una Budd restored Trinity's lead, with a goal from a short corner, two minutes in to the second half but, once again, UCD came back, equalising through Hobson who fired a shot from a narrow angle on the right past Barbara Sheehy-Skeffington in the Trinity goal.

Left winger Susan Mitchell, midfielder Jill Kelly and Irish under-21 international forward Lorraine Furney led UCD's search for a winner but it was Trinity who took the lead, for the third time in the game, when Jan Perrin ended a scramble in the circle by lifting the ball over Andrews. Linda Caulfield sealed Trinity's win, just two minutes from the end, when she got a touch on Kerry Hiles' short corner strike.

The two teams could be meeting in Senior A hockey next season if UCD, who are top of Senior B with just a month left in the campaign, can hold on and win promotion.
