GRANNY'S PET can prove to be a friend of all the family by defying top weight in the £30,000 Coral Sprint Handicap over six furlongs at Newmarket today. Paul Cole's imposing colt is a class act having been runner up to Hidden Meadow over seven furlongs at the same course last month and later finishing fifth in the Italian 2000 Guineas.

And it is significant that he is making a quick reappearance after getting no sort of run when fourth to Tomba on his return to six furlongs at Haydock last Saturday.

The son of Selkirk refused to settle for his rider Jimmy Quinn and when he was asked to quicken, Granny's Pet was behind a wall of horses with nowhere to go. He only saw daylight in the last 100 yards by which time the winner had flown, yet Granny's Pet was only beaten two lengths.

Stable jockey Richard Quinn is back in the plate at a course for which Granny's Pet reserves his best form. As well as his fine effort in the Free Handicap at Newmarket, he was third to Papua in the 23 runner Tattersalls Houghton Sales Conditions Stakes over six furlongs last October.
