PROVINCIAL CHAIRMAN Jimmy O'Gorman has admitted disappointment with last Sunday's 17,365 attendance at the Gaelic Grounds for the Clare v Waterford Munster SHC showdown. O'Gorman expected to see 23-25,000 in Limerick for the quarter-final tie but supporters from his native Waterford did not travel in their usually high numbers as they were unhappy with the choice of venue. However, O'Gorman, although sympathising to an extent, insisted that the decision to play the game in Limerick was taken democratically.
O'Gorman also expressed delight with the re-emergence of Clare as a force in the province and insisted the standard of fare on offer is another huge vindication for the Munster senior hurling championship.
"It's good to see them back again and we need the five counties playing out of their skins in Munster to preserve what is the best championship."
