Kerry ... 3-14 Tyrone ... 1-07: Kerry and Tyrone created history on Saturday when they became the first two teams to contest an All-Ireland minor football quarter-final.
Unfortunately for the Ulster side, they surrendered their All-Ireland title to a side who won their provincial title with a very impressive victory over Tipperary.
Tyrone had also lost their Ulster title to an excellent Derry side. The opening half at Portlaoise was dominated by the Munster champions and a goal midway through the half by Colin O'Connor helped them to a 1-7 to 0-2 half-time lead.
On the changeover, Kerry added three further points in the space of five minutes and, when O'Connor scored his second goal after 20 minutes, Kerry led by 2-12 to 0-4. Tyrone's consolation goal by Patrick Earley helped put a respectability on the scoreline.
