Bray Wanderers 2 UCD 1:Goals in each half from captain Clive Delaney and teenager Gary McCabe helped Bray Wanderers continue their climb up the Premier Division table and end UCD's remarkable 10-match unbeaten record in competitive games after a tight encounter at the Carlisle Grounds last night.
The Seagulls were ahead after 19 minutes when unmarked central defender Delaney soared above the college defence to nod past goalkeeper Matt Gregg after a corner from Alan Cawley on the left. It was a training ground routine for Bray with Delaney repeating the goal he scored in their last home outing, against Sligo Rovers.
UCD should really have been level eight minutes before the interval when a defence-splitting pass from Alan McNally sent striker Conor Sammon racing through the middle. Winger Conan Byrne collected his clever ball only to see his effort half blocked by goalkeeper Steve Williams, with winger Gary McCabe completing the clearance.
Bray might have stretched their lead in the first minute of the second half when a corner by Cawley on the left allowed McCabe to send over a cross which was back-headed just past the post by Romanian striker Andrei Georgescu.
UCD took advantage of that home lapse when Derek Doyle powered home an equaliser on 47 minutes after Conan Byrne had dispossessed defender Gareth Cronin. Sammon's resulting shot was parried by Williams with Doyle firing home the rebound from close range.
The students dominated the early periods of the second half - a McNally header was saved by Williams after a long free by Ian Bermingham on the left and twice midfielder Shane McFaul tested Williams as the college side applied all the pressure.
But Bray came bouncing back with a winner on 69 minutes when McCabe found space on the left after a long clearance by Williams and fired home a spectacular individual goal from 16 yards.
