Ulster 10 Glasgow 24:Ulster's season continued to unravel in an alarming fashion as Mark McCall's side crashed to a humiliating defeat at Ravenhill last night, the province's second successive home reverse and an eighth defeat from their last 11 games in all competitions.

Ulster threw away a match-winning lead at Cardiff last week and their fragility was brutally exposed by mid-table Glasgow, who ran in three tries by Rory Lamont, John Beattie and John Barclay, all converted by Dan Parks, who also slotted a penalty.

Ulster, who managed to stir themselves only for a brief period at the start of the second half, were completely outplayed, with only second-half tries by Andrew Trimble and Andrew Maxwell to show for their efforts.

Ulster had gone into the game eager to bury the memories of collapsing to a second-string Munster side in their last Ravenhill outing but the crowd of 8,056 saw another poor performance, with large sections booing the home team off the park.

Glasgow, encouraged by their opponents' hesitant start, which saw Paddy Wallace miss a simple penalty chance, grew into the game and took the lead with a Parks penalty in the 28th minute.

Ulster had their moments, such as a searing break by Tommy Bowe that should have resulted in a try if Trimble had been able to find Maxwell, but they were continually undone by errors and a lack of commitment at the breakdown.

The visitors stretched their lead just before the break when Rory Lamont charged over after rampant play from their pack and Parks's conversion left Ulster trailing 10-0 at the break.

Ulster came out fighting on the restart and a sizzling break by Paddy Wallace carved out a well-worked try by Trimble.

At 10-5 Ulster were back in the contest but even with the visitors down to 14 men with Steve Swindall in the bin, their effort dwindled. The killer blow came when John Beattie intercepted an inside pass by David Humphreys and raced home from 60 metres. Parks converted.

Glasgow managed to rub salt into the wounds when John Barclay touched down as the home pack were driven over their own line from their own scrum.

A late touchdown by Maxwell did little to ease the pain for the home support, or the under-pressure McCall.
