Celtic League: Ulster 33 Glasgow 6 Ulster firmly put the disappointment of their opening Celtic League defeat to Neath-Swansea Ospreys behind them as Alan Solomons's side put Glasgow impressively to the sword at Ravenhill last night.

Shorn of no less than 10 front-line players, due to World Cup commitments and injuries, Ulster showed tremendous resolve to bounce back from last week's low, when the northerners had allowed a 21-10 lead to slip in a 41-30 defeat in South Wales.

The home side completely dominated the contest throughout, with Glasgow, admittedly understrength with five internationals not made available by Scotland coach Ian McGeechan, restricted to a penalty and a drop goal.

Ulster had the game firmly within their grasp by half time thanks to tries by Rowan Frost and Andy Ward and a conversion and penalty by outhalf Adam Larkin.

The home side should have been further in front but at times their accuracy and patience let them down in a manner that was to feature throughout this contest.

Larkin stretched the lead with a penalty in the first minute of the second half but despite completely dominating possession, the home side found themselves increasingly frustrated at their inability to breach the visitors' defence.

The lack of a cutting edge was the one flaw in the Ulster performance, which will provide Solomons with some food for thought.

Despite having Glasgow at their mercy, Ulster were restricted to two more Larkin penalties before they finally breached the visitors' defence when Shane Stewart showed a neat sidestep to carve a gap and score under the posts in the 77th minute.

Larkin converted to complete a personal haul of 18 points.

So no bonus point for Ulster, but their Celtic League campaign is now firmly on track.
