To Fermanagh's comfortable recent superiority over Monaghan can be added the advantage of two tough outings already in this year's championship. Monaghan manager Jack McCarville expressed some apprehension during the week about the dangers of coming into the match cold. Fermanagh may have been a touch fortunate to see off Donegal but given the barren history with their neighbours until last year, the eventual success was an end in itself.

Ulster Player of the Month Mark O'Donnell remains on the bench from where he launched all sorts of problems for Donegal. As well as the acknowledged decent attack, Fermanagh have become a bit more solid further back the field. They also stood up to the at times severe physical pressure exerted by Donegal.

All told, it looks too strong a combination for the visitors. An additional incentive for Fermanagh comes in the form of a threatened third match against Donegal should they lose.
