Understrength Meath prove too powerful

DIVISION 2B/Meath ... 3-11 Waterford ... 0-6: This encounter at Navan's Páirc Táilteann provided the inevitable one-sided encounter as an understrength Meath still packed too much power for the visitors. The small crowd only got excited when Ollie Murphy came on at the start of the third quarter and sent over a spectacular point from play.

Meath could afford to leave Cormac Sullivan, Trevor Giles and Graham Geraghty on the sideline while Darren Fay is suspended. The game provided an opportunity for some of the lesser known players to impress as Daithi Regan, Davis Crimmons and Adrian Kenny shared the goals.

Regan netted a penalty after 22 minutes to put Meath 1-3 to 0-1 ahead and it was 1-5 to 0-1 at the end of the first half. The second goal came after Waterford goalkeeper Paul Houlihan kept out a Mick O'Dowd attempt and Crimmins applied the finishing touch for a 2-9 to 0-3 lead with 21 minutes of the second period played.

Eight minutes later Kenny crashed a shot to the roof of the net and Murphy got among the scorers before passing to Kenny for his fifth point and his first from play.
