Division One/Round-up: A Shaun Gallagher goal clinched the first division championship and promotion for Drogheda United, a year after having had to apply for re-election to the league, as they beat Sligo Rovers 1-0 at the Showgrounds yesterday.

Cheered on by over 1,000 travelling fans, Drogheda's winner came on 27 minutes when Gallagher drilled the ball past Danny O'Leary in the Sligo goal.

Who gets second place and the play-off remains in doubt as Dublin City gave themselves a lifeline beating Finn Harps 3-1 at Whitehall.

John McDonnell's Dubliners must now wait to see if their appeal to arbitration over the Noel Hunt registration row is successful if they are to make the play-off against Longford Town.

Brendan Markey headed home Austin Skelly's cross to put Dublin City in front on 21 minutes with Davy Campbell adding the second in first half stoppage time.

Tom Mohan got a goal back for Harps two minutes after the break but Robbie Farrell added Dublin City's third goal in the final minute.

Elsewhere, Limerick FC and Cobh Ramblers must apply for re-election. Limerick beat Kilkenny City 1-0 at Jackman Park. But it counted for nothing as Athlone Town had a 2-1 victory over Cobh to escape.
