It's time for the final of the season's four majors, the USPGA Championship at the Atlantic Athletic Club in Georgia, not too far distant in a mileage sense from the year's opening major, the US Masters. Tiger Woods won that title and is once again strongly fancied to annex a third consecutive PGA Championship, having won at Medinah and Valhalla.
The odds on Tiger (5 to 2) are more generous than many would have expected prior to the start of the season. Still this column is not tempted. British Open champion David Duval is a decent price at 14 to 1 but we like the look of Davis Love, the 1997 champion at 25 to 1.
If last weekend's Buick Invitational was something of a formguide then the winner Kenny Perry - he was a runner up to Mark Brooks in the 1996 PGA Championship - represents a value bet at 66 to 1.
Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco also showed good form. However, we advise Justin Leonard (80 to 1) another runner up in the PGA and a former British Open champion.
Padraig Harrington was in superb form at the Buick and at 66 to 1 may represent better value than his compatriots Darren Clarke (40 to 1) or the new Celtic Welsh Open champion Paul McGinley (150 to 1).
