1 - Who will win and why?

I think Europe will do it. I have seen them for the last two days and they look completely relaxed. The players have been in this situation before and I think with the three Irish players involved that's going to be an extra inspiration to the side. They know the course and that must be an advantage for them.

America have four rookies and you're never quite sure how they'll acquit themselves over what is a tough course. Just look at the finishing holes. The atmosphere has been electric all week and play hasn't started.

If you look at the individual records, most of the Americans have losing ones while the reverse is the case for the Europeans.

2 - What appeals to you about the Ryder Cup?

This is the greatest sporting event bar none for excitement and enjoyment over three days. You can take the soccer World Cup and look at the magnitude of the competition and the number of competing nations, ditto, the World Athletics and Olympics but for three days of intense competition, it's hard to surpass the Ryder Cup.

There has to be a reason why so many people get excited about this and it's probably down to a primeval battle on the Sunday where it's one against one. It's the only time I ever shout at the television.

I remember Bernhard Langer missing that putt at Kiawah and being upset for him. I don't shout at the television for any other sport.

3 - Who are the key players?

Darren Clarke. He's the focal point for the team and everyone is willing him to do well. I hope his game stands up and that he plays like he can. Colin Montgomerie is the leader of the side and an inspiration to the younger players.

There's also Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley because they are playing in their own backyard. There doesn't appear to be a bad pair.

The Americans will look to Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Chris DiMarco and Jim Furyk to lead the way.

4 - Favourite Ryder Cup memory?

Christy O'Connor Jnr's two-iron in 1989. I played that hole and know what it's like to stand over that shot. It just gives you a greater appreciation of what he achieved.
