England v Ukraine:England winger Theo Walcott suffered a hamstring injury in training and is doubtful for their final Group D match against Ukraine, manager Roy Hodgson told the BBC yesterday.
Walcott (23) inspired a comeback win over Sweden as a substitute on Friday, scoring England’s second goal and setting up Danny Welbeck for the third to seal a 3-2 victory.
“Unfortunately, he had a slight setback in training today so . . . really whether he is a real contender for a starting position will depend on what the medical people can tell me,” said Hodgson.
England need a draw to reach the quarter-finals but Wayne Rooney returns for the fixture.
Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko is doubtful for the game as he suffered two blows to the knee against France, said Ukraine spokesman Oleksander Hlyvinsky. Shevchenko has fluid on the knee which “doctors are trying to pump out”.
Team doctor Leonid Mironov said he is receiving massage treatment and that all necessary medical procedures will be undertaken.
