Leslie Walker completed a notable double this week when he won the Irish Assistants' PGA Championship at Royal County Down yesterday. Only last Monday he won the Moran Cup at Royal Dublin.

In yesterday morning's semi-finals, the Foxrock player beat Neil Manchip by 3 and 2 and then took the honours with a final 3 and 1 win over Robert Giles to end a superb four days of golf.

"It has been a good week for me certainly and this win is really pleasing. This is my third time to play in the tournament," Walker (27) said. "Two years ago Neil beat me in the second round. Last year, Robert (Giles) beat me at the same stage of the competition so I have got revenge on both now.

In the final, he stormed off with a winning birdie four and was two up after five holes. Giles, a former Irish Assistants' Strokeplay champion, won the seventh and eighth in par to level the math, but Walker took control again with a birdie at the 10th.
