A LATE point by Brian Walsh gave Sligo a narrow one point win over Carlow at Markievicz Park yesterday. The Tubbercurry clubman struck the winner from play on the stroke of full time after Paul Taylor, who scored 10 of his team's points had levelled the scores a minute earlier.
Eire Og clubman Willie Quinlan gave the visitors the lead for the first - and only - time in the game with a splendid goal in the 25th minute and at that stage it looked as if Carlow would hold on to their unbeaten record. But they were caught by Sligo's late flourish and left to rue a sackful of wasted chances in the first half.
Sligo led by 0-6 to 0-5 at half time and 15 minutes into the second half they were three points in front. Taylor missed a great goal chance three minutes before the end when he blasted the ball across the face of an open goal.
