HURLING/SHINTY:LED BY Kilkenny's Tommy Walsh at Inverness on Saturday, Shane Dooley snatched a 74th-minute goal which gave Ireland a 1-11 to 1-8 victory and a first senior hurling/Shinty title since 2003.
Down’s Gareth “Magic” Johnston, Armagh’s Paul McCormack and Johnny McIntosh of Antrim were among those who gave excellent displays and, while Scotland tried hard for scores, Laois netminder Paddy Mullaney pulled off some great saves.
After the game Walsh accepted the cup for Ireland, with Cork’s Shane O’Neill receiving the man of the match award.
Ireland regained the Camogie/Shinty trophy with a 2-2 to 0-0 victory at Inverness.
Player of the match Colette McSorley from Armagh was outstanding as were Maggie McBride of Cavan and Tyrone’s Aisling Corr who struck for the allimportant goals.
