Peter Walsh won the 1999 Benelux Formula Ford Championship in Zandvoort, Holland, yesterday.

Walsh, having won three of the last five rounds, took a one-point lead into this week's event. After last week's victory in Spa Francochamps, Walsh finished second to win one of the most important and competitive championships in motorsport.

To win Walsh had to finish ahead of Dutch driver, Van Der Valk, and not less than second in the race overall. In a titanic battle, the two fought all the way to the chequered flag, with Walsh coming home with the title.

The Benelux championship is one of the highest regarded motor racing championships in Europe and it is expected that at least five drivers from this year's championship will compete in Formula 1 in the future.
