Golf:Ireland's Philip Walton, hero of The 1995 Ryder Cup, made an impressive start to his Senior Tour career with an opening two under par 69 in the Mallorca Open Senior to lie one behind the leaders.
Walton, winner of three European Tour titles and the man who secured the winning point in The Ryder Cup at Oak Hill 17 years ago, turned 50 on March 28th, and he will be pleased with his debut after collecting three birdies with just a solitary dropped shot over the José María Olazábal-designed Pula Golf Club.
The Dubliner is one of a group of nine players on two under par that also includes three Ryder Cup captains in Mark James, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam. They trail the leading trio of England’s David J Russell and Paul Wesselingh and American Dick Mast.
