Sports Digest/ Cricket: Shane Warne is looking into whether he qualifies for a German passport so he can play county cricket as a non-overseas player.
English clubs are allowed to field two overseas players but that quota will be halved next season.
European Union passport holders are exempt, however, and Hampshire captain Warne is investigating whether he can exploit his genealogy to play in England.
"My mum was German. She came over to Australia when she was, I think, four or five," he told BBC Sport.
"With only one overseas (player) next year, it's something we're looking at."
Warne, Test cricket's record wicket-taker, will lead Hampshire in today's Friends Provident Trophy final against Durham at Lord's.
The 37-year-old first played for the county seven years ago and has been with the club since 2004 in his current spell.
He is contracted to Hampshire until the end of next season, having retired from Test cricket in January after taking 708 wickets in 145 Tests.
He would not be the first overseas player to exploit EU passport regulations.
Warne's South African team-mate Nic Pothas qualifies through Greek ancestry and New Zealander Hamish Marshall is playing for Gloucestershire on an Irish passport.
Warne's fellow Australian Stuart Clark, who also played for Hampshire this season, could be the one to benefit if the spinner is successful in his efforts.
Duval stuns rest of field
Motor Sport: Belgium's Francois Duval stunned the rest of the field as he surged to the top of the leaderboard on day one of the Rally Germany.
Duval (26), a former Ford and factory Citroen driver with one WRC victory to his name, is competing behind the wheel of the OMV Kronos Citroen Xsara for the first time since he won the Rally Australia back in 2005.
His impressive performance was aided by an error by reigning three-time champion Sebastien Loeb, who selected the wrong tyres for the afternoon's stages, thus surrendering the lead to Duval by 1.3 seconds.
BP-Ford's Marcus Gronholm, championship leader by 13 points from Loeb heading into this weekend, is third, 16 seconds adrift of his title rival.
