Schools' Rugby Leinster Section A Junior Cup: Openside John Warren's two tries, one in each half, were crucial to St Columba's College dethroning holders CBS Naas in the Leinster Schools' Section A Duff Junior Cup quarter-final at Clondalkin yesterday.

Naas started promisingly as centre Max Bradley cut through for a 15th-minute try, converted by Shane Bergin. St Columba's responded with full back Ian McKinley landing a penalty and Warren's first try made it 8-7 at the break. Naas were back in front from Bergin's second success in the 48th minute and held out until Warren drove over under the posts for McKinley to add the points.

St Patrick's Classical School, Navan, convincing 18-0 winners over De La Salle, Churchtown, at Barnhall, will provide St Columba's semi-final opposition. The St Patrick's pack took control from the outset and first-half tries from Conor O'Donoghue and Brian McKeever were followed by a third by outhalf Karl Manning and a penalty from O'Donoghue.

St Fintan's High School, Sutton, eked out a 9-3 win over Wilson's Hospital at North Kildare. Wilson's centre Colin Draper landed an early penalty and that was the signal for St Fintan's tight-head Chris Cadwell and centre JJ Plunkett to up the tempo. Michael Winterson tied the scores before the break and added penalties in the 35th and 48th minutes to make it 9-3.
