Waterford United will face Dundalk in Tuesday night’s promotion/relegation play-off after securing a 1-1 draw at home to Longford in the second leg at the Regional Sports Centre. The result gives Waterford a 3-1 aggregate win.
Waterford calmed their nerves early on by getting off to the best possible start, taking the lead through Peter Higgins after just nine minutes.
They retained their lead until the break but a straight red card for Seamus Long after 49 minutes put them on the back foot.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, they maintained their advantage right up until the last minute of the game, when Alan Kirby netted for Longford.
