Waterford 1-17 UCC 2-13: A WATERFORD side, which included only a couple of the team which started the All-Ireland final, had a deserved win over UCC at Páirc Déuglán, Ardmore, yesterday. The home side led by 1-11 to 0-6 after a tame first half, the goal coming from Gary Hurney. Waterford seemed to be cruising until UCC were awarded a 20-metre free in front of goal. Cork goalkeeper Anthony Nash blasted to the net to make the score 1-15 to 1-11.
Gary Hurney and Jamie Nagle pointed for Waterford before Pat Barry's effort was saved by Donal O'Rourke only for Stephen Moylan to hammer the rebound to the net. Damien Browne reduced the margin to minimum in injury-time but UCC wasted chances to bring the game into extra time.
