Waterford 1-20 Clare 3-13IT TOOK 20 minutes of extra-time to separate the sides at Cusack Park, Ennis, yesterday evening. In the end a late Cathal Curran point for Waterford separated the sides.
Waterford led by 1-8 to 1-6 at half-time, with Darragh Flynn finding the Clare net in the 14th minute. Clare’s Shane O’Donnell goaled early in the game and in the second half O’Donnell and Bobby Duggan added two more goals.
But some good scores from the Waterford forwards ensured the sides were tied at 3-8 to 1-14 at the end of normal time.
In the first period of extra-time, the visitors forged ahead and led 1-19 to 3-10 at the break and even though Clare replied with three scores in the second half of extra-time, Curran’s point gave Waterford victory while champions Clare take the back-door route.
