ALL-IRELAND MHC QUARTER-FINAL Waterford 0-15 Kilkenny 0-9:THE MINOR hurlers of Waterford are through to an All-Ireland semi-final after they overcame neighbours Kilkenny in Walsh Park on Saturday evening.

The talk in Kilkenny before this game was that this was their worst minor team in quite a few years and so it turned out Waterford ran out comfortable winners. Aided by a stiff breeze, Waterford enjoyed the majority of the possession in the first half and led by 0-5 to 0-1 after the first quarter in which Jamie Barron at wing -back and Donal Breathnach, a scorer of two points, were superb.

Kilkenny hung on to the Deise coat tails, thanks largely to the frees of Kevin Kelly but Waterford pulled away again as half-time approached to lead by 0-9 to 0-4.

Kilkenny threatened to make a game of it early in the second half and after spectacular points from Eoin McGrath and Peter Vickery, they had Waterford’s lead down to a more manageable three points.

And the Leinster side dominated possession in the third quarter but their goose was cooked in the 11th minute of the half when they failed to get anything from a 21-yard free.

From then until the end, it was all Waterford who cruised to the finish in the end with Gavin O’Brien and Ray Barry firing over excellent points.
