Munster Under-21 FC/Waterford 1-13; Cork 2-8:  Waterford under-21 footballers scored a surprise win over Cork in last night's Munster semi-final clash at Walsh Park. The pre-match underdogs took the game to their opponents and apart from a spell midway through the first half they dominated proceedings.

The home side started well and despite some wayward shooting led by two points after seven minutes But then Cork's first attack yielded a goal by midfielder Murt Kelleher and corner forward James Masters followed up with two quick points.

Referee Michael Ryan awarded two penalties in as many minutes and when Michael Walsh's effort for Waterford was saved and Conrad Murphy blasted to the net for Cork, it looked like the favourites were on their way.

Three more Cork points put them nine points up after 21 minutes and the crowd of about 1,000 were resigned to a rout. But it changed dramatically after that. Three points made it 2-5 to 0-5 at the interval and Waterford continued on the restart with three more points before Liam Ó Lionnain hit a goal to level the match.

Man of the match Billy Harty put Waterford ahead after 37 minutes and although Cork hit back for two points, there was no stopping the locals who kicked four points to just one for the opposition.
