Midfielder Mark Radley was Waterford's hero at Ardfinnan yesterday when he kicked the winning point in injury time of extra time in a highly entertaining McGrath Cup senior football game. Radley had earlier forced the game into extra time when he kicked Waterford's equaliser at the end of normal time.

Tipperary had taken an early lead in the game, but goals by Waterford's Martin Power and Stephen Cunningham gave the visitors a 2-2 to 0-6 half-time lead.

Waterford had stretched their lead to 2-6 to 0-7 when Tipperary hurling star Brendan Cummins, who came on as a second half substitute, kicked two points. A great movement between Cummins, Derry Foley, Conor O'Shea and John Costello led to Tipperary's equalising goal after 57 minutes. A point by Sean Collum gave Tipperary the lead, but a Radley point sent the game into extra time on a score of 2-7 to 1-10.

Waterford completely dominated the first period of extra time and were ahead 2-11 to 1-10 after 10 minutes. A penalty for a foul on Peter Lambert was converted by Cummins to put Tipperary back in the game. They trailed by two points (2-10 to 212) at the end of the first period, but in the second, hectic, 15 minutes they had again drawn level at 2-13 each before Radley's final, decisive, score.
