Waterford ... 0-8 Monaghan ... 0-8: An injury-time point from a free converted by Connie Power earned Waterford a deserved draw at Dungarvan yesterday and the result saw the home side collect their first point of the league campaign.
Monaghan were left to rue 11 first-half wides, when playing with the assistance of a gale-force wind and at times driving rain. The winners led by double scores 0-4 to 0-2 at the interval after it took them nine minutes to record their opening score, an Eoin Lennon point. Points were exchanged early in the second period before Gary Hurney and Anthony Power had Waterford on parity eight minutes after the resumption.
The sides were level on two further occasions, and were deadlocked at seven points apiece with 11 minutes remaining. John Paul Mone's point for Monaghan looked enough for victory until up stepped Power to send over the equaliser following a foul on the impressive Shane Walsh.
